THE BATTLE OF WORCESTER

WEDNESDAY 3 SEPTEMBER

DAY 1

At the Battle of Worcester Charles II at the head of an army raised in Scotland meets Cromwell on 3 September 1651, they engage in the early morning and the fight goes on all day.

The battle is lost Charles and a number of nobles together with about 60 Cavaliers ride northwards towards Scotland - from where his army had come - Charles has it in mind to turn towards London where he believes that he can find a boat to take him out of the country, but is dissuaded from this course of action.

The Party become lost and need a survival plan. One of the party, Lord Derby, was recently sheltered by the Catholic Underground near Wolverhampton, at Boscobel House in Brewood (pronounced Brood) Forest and it is agreed that they will make for there.
